James Michael (Jimmy) Anderson (born 30 July 1982 in Burnley, Lancashire) is an international English cricketer.
Anderson's rise from a relative nobody to a Test regular is quite remarkable. One year, he found himself playing for Lancashire League club Burnley, the next he was taking wickets in the 2003 World Cup for England. Still only 20 years old, Anderson's prize ODI scalps included Adam Gilchrist and most of the Pakistan batting order, which succumbed to his devastating in-swinging yorkers.
Perhaps his career defining moment, however, was his hat-trick against Pakistan in the Natwest Challenge of 2003. Although the wickets were mainly against lower order batsmen, it was still quite an achievement, as at the time he was at the age of just 22.
